Star Wars Halloween

I guess you could say Halloween was R2's official public debut. I put him on the porch (with a jawa to keep an eye on him) and C3PO stood just inside the front door keeping watch over all. The bus stop robots were already in place on the front porch so there was plenty for the kids (and adults) to take in.

Normally we get very few kids on Halloween because a couple blocks over is always a massive Halloween block party and one of the best haunted houses with beautiful props. So our little corner of the subdivision kind of gets passed over.

But not this year. I don't know what it was but we had a lot of kids and R2 was a major hit. He stayed stationary on the porch while I manipulated the sounds and the dome. My favorite moment was when a real little kid murmurred "I love R2" in a soft voice. The only tense moment was when one kid started beating R2 and trying his best to remove any part he could off of R2 by pulling, poking and tugging on everything. Another adult standing close kept trying to get him to stop but it didn't last long. I finally said something when the kid started hitting R2 with his bag of candy acting like he was posessed by the dark side.

But my philosophy on this stuff is it's all fixable so I don't get too bent out of shape when the robots get touched (in most cases). We both enjoyed talking to the parents and kids about R2

Thanks Lynelle,
Oh and my jawa was touched by your comment. He's sensitive for a jawa.
